Using the pattern as the composition was a strong choice - the repetition of the pattern as the composition shape ties the two together to make a compelling piece! As a suggestion, the values could be closer together to make the edges vibrate more (specifically, the purple could be more vibrant. Like a fuschia) but overall this project has a good start.
This piece is super successful because the bright yellow against the bright purple make the colors vibrate. Also the pattern you chose gives off an illusion of depth and movement.
I think the edges are vibrating. I think the way you laid out the design is really working too, the rectangle definitely suits it. I think you could maybe lighten the purple to make the edges vibrate even more.
